How to Program a Centurion D5 Gate Remote

On a Centurion D5 system, programming a gate remote normally means learning a Centurion Nova transmitter into the D5’s onboard receiver. The exact method depends on the D5 generation.

Older D5-Evo and related D-Series controllers use an on-board LCD Add Remote workflow. D5 SMART and D5-Evo SMART systems use the Centurion SMART ecosystem through MyCentsys apps. Identify which generation you have before you follow either path.

First identify which Centurion D5 you have

D5 is the gate operator and controller family. Nova is the Centurion transmitter family. You are enrolling the Nova remote into the D5 receiver, not “turning the motor into a remote.”

• D5-Evo / LCD D-Series style: the controller has physical menu buttons (including an oblong centre button and a round exit button) and an LCD used for Remote Controls (Tx) menus.
• D5 SMART / D5-Evo SMART: the operator is part of the SMART platform and is configured with MyCentsys smartphone apps (MyCentsys Pro and/or MyCentsys Remote). GMS D5 Smart kits ship in this ecosystem and include Nova remotes.

If the housing label is unclear, confirm the model from the install paperwork or a photo of the controller before you proceed. Do not mix LCD steps with SMART app steps.

How Centurion D5 remote programming works

Nova remotes are code-hopping (rolling-code) transmitters. Centurion states they cannot be copied or cloned. Each button you learn is stored in the operator’s onboard NOVA receiver memory, with a large capacity on SMART models (up to 1500 remotes on D5-Evo SMART documentation).

“Connect a remote to a D5” in search language almost always means this learn/enrol process, not rewiring the motor. Wiring changes belong with a qualified installer.

How to add a remote to a D5-Evo / LCD-based D-Series system

Applies to Centurion D-Series controllers that use the LCD Remote Controls (Tx) menu, including D5-Evo style interfaces described in Centurion’s official tutorial. Does not apply to D5 SMART app-only workflows. A working old remote is not required for Add Remote.

1. Enter programming mode by pressing and holding the oblong centre button for about two seconds. The display should show Setting Limits (or the first menu item on that controller).
2. Use the arrow buttons until the screen shows Remote Controls (Tx), then press and release the oblong button to enter that menu.
3. With Add Remote shown, press and release the oblong button again.
4. Select the function for the button (for everyday open/stop/close use, choose Trigger Gate or the equivalent trigger option), confirming with the oblong button.
5. When asked about time-bar remote, choose No unless you intentionally want time-barring, then confirm.
6. When prompted, press and release the button on the Nova remote you want to use. A unique ID on the display indicates the button was learned.
7. Press the round exit button twice to leave programming mode, then test the remote.

How to add a remote to a D5 SMART system

Applies to D5 SMART and D5-Evo SMART operators that use Centurion’s SMART platform. Official documentation configures remotes through the MyCentsys Pro and MyCentsys Remote smartphone applications while you are near the motor. Do not use the LCD Add Remote sequence above as a substitute unless your specific unit also exposes that menu.

1. Install MyCentsys Pro and/or MyCentsys Remote from the official app store for your phone, as directed in the SMART installation documentation for your operator.
2. Stand near the D5 SMART operator, open the app, and connect to the correct operator on site.
3. Use the app’s transmitter / remote management functions to add a Nova remote, assign the button function you need (for example full gate trigger), and save.
4. Test the Nova button from a normal operating distance.

In-app screens change with software updates. Follow the prompts in the Centurion app connected to your operator rather than a screenshot from another site. If the app cannot see the motor, fix connectivity and permissions before blaming the remote.

Can you copy or clone a Centurion Nova remote?

No. Centurion states Nova remotes use code-hopping security and cannot be copied or cloned. Add each new Nova through the controller menu or SMART app. Do not use third-party clone devices or “universal” capture tools against a Nova system.

Why your Centurion remote may not program

• The remote is not a Centurion Nova (or matching Centurion code-hopping family) for that receiver.
• You followed LCD steps on a SMART-only unit, or app steps on an LCD-only unit.
• Flat battery, weak phone connection to the SMART operator, or the wrong operator selected in the app.
• Holiday lockout or another inhibit feature is active on the controller.
• The button was learned to a different function than you expected.

When the problem is not the remote

If the gate will not run at all, beeps, stops halfway or ignores every input, start with automatic gate troubleshooting. Resetting a D5 motor or clearing controller setup is not the same job as adding a Nova remote, and casual factory resets can remove existing transmitters or limits. Leave motor resets to a technician unless you are following the exact procedure for your controller on purpose.
